Daddy Knows 03:32
Been down to Austin Spent time in France Some things you learn by luck Some you learn by chance But Daddy knows What Daddy knows You gotta pay the piper and you Can't fool the reaper Some things you learn yourself Some get taught by teacher But Daddy knows What Daddy knows Daddy knows a lot about the little things And a little bit about the big things Daddy knows Sometimes Daddy knows best Sometimes Daddy knows all You can fool some people some of the time But you can't fool Daddy at all Cause Daddy knows So go tell your mama Go tell your pa You think you know some things but You don't know shit at all But Daddy knows What Daddy knows Don't do tomorrow what cha Oughta done today Don't woulda, coulda, shoulda You get good that way Well Daddy knows What Daddy knows Daddy knows a lot about the little things And a little bit about the big things Daddy knows Daddy knows a thing or two about a thing or two One thing Daddy knows Is he knows that man don't love you Daddy knows © 2014 Gerry Gomez Published by Humdevil Makes Music (ASCAP)

Well down at 8 lives Jake the Snake He's always asking "Can I spare a buck?" He got a loaded gun that he keeps for fun In the backseat of his pickup truck He got a girl there too, her name's a Linda Lou She never wakes up until 11 And she's got tattoos in some places I ain't never seen She's a 12-pack beauty queen Well they're a perfect pair he wears his underwear Out from his jeans right above the knees She drives a stolen car to the local bar and she does anything she please Well life is great down at apartment 8 they've really got their slice of heaven And she's got tattoos in some places I ain't never seen She's a 12-pack beauty queen Now she plays it cool, she really ain't no fool When it comes to getting what she wants She wears those tight ass jeans and says something obscene That crazy 12-pack beauty queen Well life is great with Jake the Snake He's always saying shit like "what the fuck?" He works from dusk till dawn and then they get it on In the backseat of his pickup truck He got a girl there too, her name's a Linda Lou She never goes to bed until 11 And she's got tattoos in some places I ain't never seen She's a 12-pack beauty queen And she's got tattoos in some places I ain't never seen She's a 12-pack beauty queen Well everyone in town has seen or gotten down With little 12-pack beauty queen © 2014 Gerry Gomez With Mike Salas Published by Humdevil Makes Music (ASCAP)

Retread 03:32
I've been shot dead, feeling like a retread Fame was going to my head, some things are better left unsaid Bought myself a new car, I was feeling like a star Things were going pretty good, I never thought I'd go this far But now I'm on the rebound, looking for a new start Thought I hit the bottom, I didn't think it'd be this hard Lord have mercy, something's out to get me Every time I get phone, someone's asking for a loan I just wanna go back home! Shut up boy and grab a mop, I'll tell you what the heck is up All's you are's a dreamer, no high-class fancy cleaner You're lucky to be a door man, helping folks load minivans Thank you sir "have a good day," I'll take that job, what does it pay? Moving on up to the top, look out world no time to stop! I'll shape up son, I'll get a gun, stop feeling like a hit and run I wish I were a Kennedy, I'd even take George Jefferson I just wanna go back home! Why'm I feeling depressed, got myself a new address Got myself some new toys, hanging out with good ole boys Got a great new tradition, I'm going on a mission Gonna lie to everyone, gonna be a politician! I'm gonna change my story, then I'll be bound for glory Kiss my ass your on your own, goodbye son I'm going home But living at a shelter, my life is helter skelter There's nothing new under the sun, help me please and load this gun I just wanna go back home! I just wanna go back home! © 2014 Gerry Gomez With Mike Salas Published by Humdevil Makes Music (ASCAP)

Daddy grew up with a pick up truck working the land by day Spent some time on the union line slaving for a rainy day We grew up big, not knowing all he did to put us kids to bed He had a usual life and a crazy wife he heard voices in his head Drank himself to curb the pain Too many years he rode that train Mommy’s undone, she ain’t much fun since the doctor took her pills away She grabbed a kitchen knife in the middle of the night to drive some punks away She dreamed of a life as a soldiers wife but the army took that dream away Instead of jewels she got the tools to learn to keep men at bay Wore her smile upside down lived her entire life in that tired town Mamma got married in June She clearly was no daughter of fortune Poppa did the best that he could Built himself a house and was the king of the neighborhood My brother’s got a secret that he never tells anyone I’ve got one and it deals with a gun We’ve all got something that we’re probably running from Waiting for us at our final destination Around here there is no fear But things ain’t always as they appear Mamma got married in June She clearly was no daughter of fortune Poppa did the best that he could Built himself a house and was the king of the neighborhood I tell my kid to grow up good Try to do the things that a good boy should Try and live your life like I know you could Grow up strong and be the king of the neighborhood © 2014 Gerry Gomez Published by Humdevil Makes Music (ASCAP)

4:22 05:33
Well I'm sitting here drowning my sorrows They're sinking in the deep end of the pool There's so many places I forget all the faces I'm bored with nothing to do My boss says, "Pick up those papers" Do my time sheets and get back to work My life would be great But I'm working 'til late So I'll tell you just what you can do... So stick it straight in your pie hole Stick it is what you can do I'm doing my work You stupid little jerk If you only had a clue So, I'm gonna have to call you back have to call you back have to call you back at 4:22 Now it might seem I've got a bad memory The truth is it runs kinda slow Tomorrow's as good as the present Ain't that what they say in old Mexico? I've never been much for deadlines I've never been much on time I'll get there when I get there As of yet I haven't been there But I'll be there in a moment's time So stick it straight in your pie hole Stick it is what you can do I'll get there when I get there As of yet I haven't been there But I'll be there in a moment or two So, I'm gonna have to call you back have to call you back have to call you back at 4:22 All you people always looking for answers Always talking and never saying nothing Don't worry 'bout me I'm happy as can be I've got plenty of nothing to do Well I ain't got no time for assholes They're like excuses and everybody's got one And everyone else's stinking But mine So stick it straight in your pie hole Stick it is what you can do I'm rolling my friend He'll be with me 'til the end He always knows, just what to do So stick it straight in your pie hole Stick it is what you can do I'm loving my friend He'll be my friend 'til the end Now who's with me? You and you and you? Yeah, I'm gonna have to call you back have to call you back have to call you back at 4:22 © 2014 Gerry Gomez Published by Humdevil Makes Music (ASCAP)

Ooooh Ooooh Oooh Ooooh Ooooh Oooh You head for the street slow Trying to make yourself go Faster and faster better watch where the wind blows You never like heading anywhere the wind blows You feel undone when morning comes Too tired to get your hammer on Grab your coffee grab your case hurry off and don't be late Working class stiff Tell me how's the noose fit? Working class stiff Until you're done get used to it Ooooh Ooooh Oooh Ooooh Ooooh Oooh Big business czars Sucking on big cigars Driving round in chauffered cars They should all be behind bars Someone turned the light out Now we've to to live without The crooks they got away clean what happened to the American Dream? Working class stiff Tell me how's the noose fit? Working class stiff Until you're done get used to it So live on your credit cards Get strangled by the finance charge Just watch your debt get larger and larger and find it and harder and harder to quit Until your done get used to it Working class stiff Tell me how's the noose fit? Working class stiff Grab a chair get used to it Working class stiff You talk so big about how you'll quit Working class stiff Until you're done get used to it © 2014 Gerry Gomez Published by Humdevil Makes Music (ASCAP)

My life was rolling like a stone with no moss Was living high on the hog like I was the boss A pretty smile would turn my head every time Until I saw the one that blew away my mind I bought the hook, line and sinker in June Yeah, we got married maybe a little too soon She said "I love you, but we're living in sin" That crooked smile is what done me in It was a wedding day like I've never seen People from miles around saw me marry my queen I was the king that day but something weren't right That church was filled up with every man in sight! I said "I do." I did, I don't anymore There was a thousand men on that church floor I thought I was your first, but now I'm not sure I do! I did! I don't anymore! I loved our love making, we did it all night And she did things to me that almost weren't right My little angel had the devil inside We threw our clothes off and we went for a ride I was exhausted as I fell off to sleep I only counted about two or three sheep But I kept on counting something jumping in my head Good Lord, I'm counting all the men in the bed! I said "I do." I did, I don't anymore I caught a line of men, hanging out our door I used to love you Hon, but not anymore I do! I did! I don't anymore! Now it may seem like things have gotten out of place I must admit I felt a little disgraced But my little angel brought out the devil in me There is a happy ending to this story I figured why keep working harder than heck I've seen a lot of things and lived through the wreck If a little sinning makes money every night, If this is wrong, then I don't want to be right! I said "I do." I did, I don't anymore I caught another man shopping at our store I used to think it wrong, but not anymore I do, I did, I don't anymore © 2014 Gerry Gomez Published by Humdevil Makes Music (ASCAP)

I went to see my old friend Joe to talk about the glory days We talked about his momma Sue and how her house got took away He said, "I remembered playing the big game on the day my Daddy died. We were clearing IEDs from the roadway. Found hundreds in the countryside. Iraq's a fucked up place it made me wonder what we were fighting for? Now folks don't even speak to my face We won the battle but we lost the war." He fought for justice and he fought for freedom He fought for you and he fought for me I went to see my old friend Joe He was a better man than you or I My old friend he left his prime years In Iraq, serving someone's lies And I'll never know how much he suffers I'll never know how much he cries Joe wears his honor like a flag Flying it high in the sky My old friend Joe was a soldier he served his time and did his duty He fought for all he remembered He fought for Sally, an American beauty He fought for justice and he fought for freedom He fought for you and he fought for me He fought for all the things people pray for The things he fought for, you cannot see The things he fought for are never free I'll never know how much he suffers I'll never know how much he cries But I'll always be thankful to him And I'll salute him till the day he dies Chorus I went to see my old friend Joe to talk about the glory days

The System 04:09
A friend said to me, "You gotta check these thieves They got a good living on them" the way they play the system Got loaded off to jail And we all made their bail 'Cause we let them play – the system Do what you are told They got bankers on the dole and judges who sold their souls "Hey! Let's all play the system! They're buying up the books they're legalizing crooks Always trying to play the system Don't make one false move you'll find it unapproved Nobody gives you very much room when you live inside the system They're starting up again their propagandized ways They're gonna change the rules they cheat but do not choose - to live inside the system Don't we get screwed by the system? Yes we get screwed by the system I think it's time we change the system If not we're damned by the system Cause it don't work for the 99 I wanna hear it for the 99 Hear me now 99 99 99 99, 99, 99 .... 99, 99, 99 .... 99, 99, 99 .... 99, 99, 99 .... I'm proud to be, part of the 99 I'm proud to be down with the 99 Say, what about you? What about you? Are you proud to be, down with the 99? Can I get a witness? © 2014 Gerry Gomez Published by Humdevil Makes Music (ASCAP)

The headaches come and they knock me out cold The day is done and I’m getting old When I’m up now, it’s usually short lived When I’m down, I ain’t got much to give Some days there’s just too much rust in my blood I’m standing in the waterfall, right before the flood So take the wheel, take me home I ain't got nothing in the world worth going home for anymore Leave me nothing, take it all Soon the water will run out on this waterfall Tell Momma I tried, and then give her my love Tell Daddy I tried, but he’s stronger than I ever was They say get some help, when you are feeling low But I lost the number to that crazy call-in show Some days they just ain’t worth getting up for anymore I lost my way, and I’m out here all alone So take the wheel, take me home I ain't got nothing in the world worth going home for anymore Leave me nothing, take it all Soon the water will run out on this waterfall I stumble to the floor, like I often do I made the bed, and I found my shoes I hit the pavement, like a newborn fawn I walked the road, till the early dawn Some days they just ain’t worth talking ‘bout much anymore Yeah, I’m still standing here with no direction home So take the wheel, take me home I ain't got nothing in the world worth going home for anymore Leave me nothing, take it all Soon the water will run out on this waterfall © 2014 Gerry Gomez Published by Humdevil Makes Music (ASCAP)

about

With a mix of Country Rock, Alt-Country, Roots Rock and Folk, Everything’s Jake sounds comfortable and groovy the second you put it on. A fixture on the LA roots scene, Damngivers debut full-length, is noteworthy for its solid songs, great musicianship, quality production, and successful fundraising campaign.

Full of catchy choruses, melodies, and classic instrumentation that conjours up parts early Wilco, the Band, Black Crowes, and others, Gomez’s musical influences are ever present but molded into his own unique delivery of tunes full of hope and irony driven home with his rootsy vocals.

“Music is a shared experience and I write songs to articulate things that others can’t,” says Gomez, “It’s my hope to bring people together with music.”

Recorded with the same team that produced Ryan Bingham’s Mescalito, co-producer Antoine Arvizu for the entire album and Marc Ford as producer on 6 tracks, Everything’s Jake captures the tightness and looseness of a band with an immediate and earnest sound.
